The Seoul Beauty Report (“the site”, “we”) publishes weekly analysis of Korean beauty sales-chart data for an English-speaking, primarily U.S.-based audience. This page explains what information is collected when you visit, why, and the choices you have. The site is operated from the Republic of Korea.

We keep data collection to the minimum a content site needs to run and show advertising. We do not sell your personal information, and we do not ask you to create an account, subscribe, or submit personal details to read anything here.

Information we collect

Automatically, when you load a page. Like almost all websites, our host and content-delivery network record standard technical request data: your IP address, browser type and version, operating system, the page you requested, the referring page, and the date and time. This is used to serve the site, monitor performance, and detect abuse. We do not use it to identify you personally.

Through cookies and similar technologies. See the next section. In short: our own cookies are limited to remembering display preferences such as light or dark mode; Google Analytics sets first-party cookies that help us count visits and measure traffic; and the cookies that can be used to build an advertising profile are set by Google, not by us.

If you email us. The address on our Contact page goes to a standard inbox. If you write to us, we keep the message and your address only as long as needed to handle your question or correction.

We do not collect names, postal addresses, payment information, or account credentials, because the site has no feature that would use them.

Cookies and advertising

The site displays advertising served by Google AdSense and its partner networks. To do this, Google and third-party vendors use cookies and device identifiers to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites.

If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or another region that requires it, Google and its certified partners will ask for your consent to use advertising cookies before any are set, through a consent message shown on the site.

Analytics

We use Google Analytics 4 to understand overall traffic patterns — which articles are read, roughly where visitors come from, what devices they use. Google Analytics sets first-party cookies (named _ga and _ga_<id>) that distinguish returning visitors from new ones; these typically expire about two years after your most recent visit. The reports we see are statistical and are not used to identify individual visitors.

Google Analytics 4 does not log or store IP addresses. An IP address is used transiently to derive coarse location (usually country or city) and is then discarded; data is processed under Google’s data-processing terms.

You can stop Google Analytics from collecting data by installing the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on, by blocking cookies in your browser, or — in regions where a consent message is shown — by declining analytics cookies there.

Some pages, mainly the buying guides, contain or will contain affiliate links to retailers such as Amazon, YesStyle, and Stylevana. If you follow one and make a purchase, the retailer may share a small commission with us at no extra cost to you, and may set its own cookies to attribute the referral. This does not affect which products we cover — selection is based only on Olive Young’s Korea sales rankings. Full details are on our Disclosure Policy page.

Articles link to retailers, manufacturers, and reference sources. Once you leave The Seoul Beauty Report, this policy no longer applies. We are not responsible for the content or privacy practices of other sites, and we encourage you to read their policies.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, or delete personal data a business holds about you, to object to certain processing, or to opt out of the “sale” or “sharing” of personal information. Because the only personal data we hold directly is what you send us by email plus standard server logs, most requests can be handled quickly. For cookie-based advertising data, use the opt-out links in the Cookies and advertising section above, which apply at the vendor level.

  • EEA / UK (GDPR): our basis for processing server-log data is our legitimate interest in operating and securing the site; advertising and analytics cookies rely on your consent, which you can withdraw at any time.
  • California (CCPA/CPRA): we do not sell personal information for money. The use of advertising cookies, and of analytics cookies where they feed Google’s advertising signals, may be considered “sharing” for cross-context behavioral advertising; you can opt out using the links above.

Children

The site is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 16. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we will delete it.

International visitors

The site is operated from the Republic of Korea and served through a global content-delivery network. If you visit from another country, your request data is processed on servers that may be outside your home jurisdiction. Google processes advertising and analytics data on its own global infrastructure under its published terms.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the site changes — for example, when affiliate programs or advertising partners are added. Material changes will be reflected in the “Last updated” date above. Continued use of the site after a change means you accept the revised policy.
